In 2003, a parasite fungus ravages the planet, turning humans into violent predators known as Infected. Twenty years later, hardened survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal) is hired by a group of rebellious freedom fighters to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What should have been a quick job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey across a postapocalyptic United States, where no one can protect Joel and Ellie but each other.
