Kaiserpinguine sind zum Singen geboren. Außer Mumble - er ist zum Tanzen geboren - zum Stepptanzen. Dieses für Pinguine ungewöhnliche Verhalten führt schließlich dazu, dass Mumble seine Heimat verlassen muss und sich in die weite, kalte Welt hinauswagt. Begleitet wird der von seinen Freunden den Adelie-Pinguinen und dem allwissenden Felsenpinguin Lovelace. Mumble begibt sich auf eine abenteuerliche Reise und beweist schließlich, dass man wirklich etwas bewegen kann - wenn man nur sich selbst treu bleibt.
