I've read many horror books, and this one has attmosphere which reminded me of The Fog (James Herbert). The use of taxidermy is very creepy as the story unravels. And while not giving anything away it is a fight between good and evil and a bit like reading an action movie. I enjoyed it very much, though I found the main character acting stupid in places where really he should have been smarter.
