I know that a lot of ppl didn't like this book becuz it didnt really "help". Some people totally disagreed with things that I think are rather minor: for example about ppl being engaged for 1 year before getting married. I mean take it with a grain of salt. Of course God's timing for everyone's different. But the same principle applies, that we should not RUSH to get married.

Some people even say that they have no business of writing a book on marriage because they seem like 2 people who shouldnt have been married in the first place. On the surface that's what it looks like. They were immature with different things, they didn't know better to deal with conflict at first ...they were opposites etc. BUT - a spouse is the best person God can use to chisel and grow us. If Bill and Lynne were perfect for each other to start with, there would be no testimony, no need for God's grace to sustain anything.

I really like this book although it feels depressing at times. It's sobering... our spouses are also human, and they have the potential to hurt us whether or not they intend to. But I believe and I have experienced God using that person in the relationship to stir up the deepest things and subsequently allowed me to heal and move on from them.

I recommend this book highly. Too many young ppl out there idealize marriage all the time. They think that if someone's the one, then there will never be any conflict.
