Die United Earth/Oceans Organisation (UEO) mit ihrem Flaggschiff, dem gigantischen U-Boot "seaQuest", hat die Aufgabe den Frieden der erbauten Kolonien zu sichern und den neuen Lebensraum zu erforschen. Unter der Leitung von Captain Nathan Bridger (Roy Scheider) sticht die "seaQuest" in See, um die letzten großen Geheimnisse des Blauen Planeten zu lüften.

In einer nahen Zukunft hat die Menschheit den Meeresboden kultiviert, weil dort die letzten Bodenschätze der Welt liegen. Doch auf dem Grund der endlosen Ozeane lauern neue Gefahren und Bedrohungen, denen nur das fantastische U-Boot "seaQuest DSV 4600" siegreich begegnen kann. Unter dem erfahrenen Kommandanten Nathan Bridger (Roy Scheider - "Der weiße Hai") kämpft die professionelle Crew der "seaQuest" gegen Schwarzmarkthändler, Massenmörder, Geister, Naturgewalten und skrupellose Wissenschaftler. Zu den wichtigsten Crewmitgliedern gehören das jugendliche Computergenie Lucas Wolenczak (Jonathan Brandis) und der intelligente Delphin Darwin, die an Bord des High-Tech-Schiffes zahllose spannende Abenteuer bestehen müssen.

The Sea Quest crew is on its way to demolish an abandoned munitions plant. As they get closer they realize it isn't abandoned at all, there are five children trapped inside. One of the children is sick and needs to be transported to the ship right away, while the oldest boy is very hesitant to leave and runs off. Lucas is thrilled to have others his age on the boat and gets to show the oldest girl on a tour of the ship. Bridger must juggle keeping the two youngest boys out of his hair while trying to help Commander Ford get the last child out of the compound before it collapses. He also has to deliver solemn news to the children concerning their parents.
