Good movie and looks great on HD DVD!
The opening winter scene, with the main character as a little boy and his grandfather lying in wait to shoot the wolf, is stunning!
And the battle scenes when crossing the Volga and others are very impressive.
The film itself has an English DTS HD MA 5.1 soundtrack with optional French subtitles, and a French dubbed track.
The menu is in French, but easy to work out (use Babel/Altavista if necessary).
The extras:
- There's a "Making of" docu in English with optional French subtitles.
- There's also a relatively interesting historical French documentary (in French only with no English subtitles) of the lead-up to and battle of Stalingrad.
- Thirdly there are eight deleted scenes; all in English with once again optional French subtitles.
This one's well worth adding to your collection!
(PS This disc plays fine on my European Toshiba HD-XE1 HD DVD player)
