I would advise anyone who likes horror movies with plots to buy this film right now! 'Nightbreed' is based on the novel 'Cabal' by Clive Barker, who's most famous work would have to be the horror film 'Hellraiser'. It's the story of a man plagued with visions of a strange world called Midian that is inhabited by all kinds of demonic creatures. I don't want to reveal too much of the plot, but it concerns a battle between the Nightbreeds and Humans, the twist being that the humans seem to come out as being infinitely more cruel than the demons - especially the serial killer psychiatrist.
Sure, in places 'Nightbreed' is violent and shocking but it has a nice plot which makes it evenly balanced for those who like gore fests and those who like stories.
