The sound of this (uncensored) edition of "Goats Head Soup" is much improved over the 1990 CD. What makes it a collector's item is that it comes in a gatefold imitation of the LP sleeve, with a custom plastic case. The sound is probably identical to the standard 1994 release, so unless you want a mini-LP replica, I see no pressing reason to purchase this edition.
Had the 2009 "Goats Head Soup" CD release been uncensored, the rush to find the 1994 CDs or the import CD would be unnecessary. One of the stranger actions by a major label, and as far as I know, not occasioned by any complaints. It should be corrected with an amended edition. Those purchasing a CD by a band like the Rolling Stones should be assured they're getting a faithful digital version of the original LP--or the changes should be noted on the packaging, so consumers can make an intelligent decision.
